Goat Mountain is one of several peaks along the Goat Ridge area, accessed from Grouse Mountain. The trail offers great 360 views and makes a great option to explore whilst up at Grouse Mountain. The trail passes some interesting rock faces which in winter are covered in giant icy stalactites, as well as some more forested sections.
A variety of hikes of different lengths are available in this area with the principal three being:
The trail is initially wide, well maintained and well signposted as it follows part of a road. After this the trail meanders up through more single track type terrain, with roots to step over and more uneven terrain. Keep an eye on your map as there are many junctions and turns that lead to different peaks. Some sections become steeper, rocky and one in particular passes a steeper rocky section with a rope to pull yourself up, though this section is avoidable with a short detour to the right.
The hike to Dam Mountain begins at the top of the Grouse Mountain gondola. You'll need to park at Grouse Mountain, and pay for the gondola up. Alternatively you can hike up Grouse Mountain first via the Grouse Grind or BCMC, though that makes this into a much bigger hike.
To reach Grouse Mountain, drive up Capilano Road from North Vancouver, or take the bus from Lonsdale Quay. If coming from downtown or further south, the SeaBus is your best bet if using public transport.
