Tucked away in Belcarra Regional Park, this trail is a wonderful choice for a half-day adventure. As you set out, you'll be surrounded by the lush green forests typical of the Pacific Northwest. The trail is well-marked and wanders through dense forest, to the main beach viewpoint at the far end, where you look out over Jug Island on the Indian Arm. The beach makes a great picnic and swimspot.
The Jug Island Trail is an out-and-back route, stretching over 5.5 kilometers with a modest elevation gain of 150 meters. It's an accessible hike that most people with a basic level of fitness can enjoy, taking approximately 1.5 hours to complete, though plan for longer if you plan to take breaks or a picnic. While it's an easier hike, the trail won't be lonely—expect to share it with other people. Belcarra Park and all its trails are very popular, especially on weekends.

The Jug Island trail is wide a pretty well maintained. Mostly soil and gravel, with occasional roots and rocks to navigate. The path is natural and can get a bit muddy after rain. You'll encounter a few short inclines that add a bit of a challenge, but nothing too strenuous. While the trail isn't steep, the uneven terrain means you should watch your step. There are no technical sections or exposure to worry about. Bring water and snacks.
