Most know Peyto Lake as a jaw-dropping stop on the Icefields Parkway. The main viewpoint is a great place to stop to stretch your legs, for a picnic, or even for a whole afternoon walk. As with the rest of the Icefields Parkway; take your time and enjoy this magical place.
There are actually a network of trails that branch off from near the viewpoint and give alternative views of this world-famous landscape.
The upper parking lot at Peyto Lake provides easy access to the main viewpoints, as well a couple of other trails that quickly take you away from the crowds and offer different view of the area. The lower car park extends this by about 1km in each direction.
The main viewpoint is located not more than five minutes walk from the parking lot. In addition, the trail is well paved which makes it accessible for most. Do bear in mind, however, that the trail is slightly up hill. Take it easy and take the time to enjoy this magnificent spot!
Peyto Lake is one of the most popular points of interest on the Icefields Parkway drive between Banff and Jasper. It’s located halfway between Banff and the Saskatchewan River Crossing, approximately 100km north of Banff. Peyto Lake is 100km from Banff and 189km from Jasper.
Although there are no public transport options, some tours operate in the area including Moose Travel Network.
