A GUIDE TO Squamish

Mecca for Hiking, Climbing, Mountain Biking, Backcountry Skiing Etc.

Generally a pretty epic place.

If you love the outdoors, you'll love Squamish. You might love it so much that you never leave. You have been warned.

Located on the Sea to Sky, Squamish is often passed over in favor of of its bigger brother, Whistler. In my opinion, they’re both world class outdoor destinations. Check it out. You won’t regret it.

From hiking and climbing to kayaking and kite surfing, Squamish has it all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Squamish is a town of four seasons. Check out seasonal temperatures here.

Winter (Jan-Mar)
For those hoping to visit Vancouver or ski in Whistler, the months of Jan-Feb are your best bet. Whistler is open in both December and April (and even May), but the snow isn’t as reliable in those months. Backcountry skiers will have a feast on the local terrain at this time of year, conditions permitting.

Summer (June-Sep)
For many, the summer is THE season in BC. Once the snow begins to melt, the hikes open up and an ocean of mountain peaks becomes accessible.

Spring & Autumn
The spring tends to be my least favorite season. Hikes are still snow-covered, and it rains a lot. Autumn also rains a fair amount, but atleast the bigger hikes are accessible and not snow covered yet.

Squamish is approximately 90 minutes from Vancouver. Most people arrive using a rental car, though its very possible to arrive by bus or coach.

Check out the following options for bus travel:

There are many options for accommodation in Squamish. From hotels and motels to Airbnbs and campsites there are options for everyone.

The town is divided into two main areas. If proximity to restaurants and breweries is your plan, the southern area (town center) is the better bet. Either way, taxis are available should you need a ride back to your place after a night out.

There are plenty of buses operating around the Squamish area. Check out BC Transit for more information.

For taxis, your best bet is google once you arrive. I think Uber only operates in Vancouver, not Squamish.

Finally, if you’re looking for a mountain bike shuttle up onto the trails, check out the Shred Shuttle.

Gear rental opportunities are limited. You’ll generally need to bring all your outdoor and camping gear with you. I would love to set up a gear rental in the future. Please reach out if you’d be interested in this!

For more information, check out the official Squamish website.
